Dear Parents and Carers

Parents' Evening and Reports

We're looking forward to welcoming you all to parents' evening next week (Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th July). We strongly believe that by adding this additional parents' evening, it allows more opportunity for us to discuss your child's progress and for you to raise any questions. At this parents' evening we will also give you a short report. This will include a couple of targets for your child in English and maths. It will also provide a summary of their attendance this academic year, and provide further information about what they have been learning as a year group. For children in those year groups, where they have taken statutory assessments, it will also provide their results.

We look forward to seeing you next week!

Mrs Elaine Thornhill

Acting Head Teacher

It is really important that all children attend school every day - let's see who can make every day till the end of term!!

Attendance Rewards

Our children are really enjoying the attendance rewards in school, please see the below poster for what they can achieve by being in school everyday.

Hello everyone,

Good news! This week we have two reasons to celebrate.

At Forest Town, we have been working hard to understand that we all make mistakes and that that is OK. This is a big life lesson. We have been learning that as long as we are honest, we can fix problems. We have also been learning the importance of accepting our wrong doing and the strength in apologising. These children have shown resilience and maturity when faced with a problem and we could not be any more proud.

We have also been working hard on how we finish our learning and move from that job to outside time or on to the next activity. This can sometimes be tricky because we've often just finished concentrating on one thing and then have to focus on to the next, but these children have done a superb job of doing just that. What amazing superstars of Forest Town you are!

Staff explained the reasons for their choices beautifully - how lucky they must feel to work alongside the children of Forest Town each day.

We are so proud of all of you, please keep up the super learning!

Mrs Potts

The Summer Fair is being held in school on Saturday 19 July from 11am to 1pm.

We would welcome donations please of the following items (to your class teacher or the office)

  • Soft toys
  • Unwanted gift sets
  • Toiletries
  • Bottles of alcohol / pop
  • Bric-a-brac stall items
  • Tombola items
  • Raffle prizes
  • Baked goods - these can be brought into school either Friday afternoon (18th) or Saturday morning (19th)

If you would like to hold a stall at the Summer Fair, please contact the office to request a booking form - these are charged £10 per stall and raffle prize donation.

All monies raised at the Summer Fair will be split equally between all year groups towards the cost of trips next academic year.

Next Thursday (17th) morning and Friday (18th) afternoon, we will be holding two transition sessions.

This is an opportunity for children and their new teachers to get to know each other and to answer any questions. It is also an opportunity to share with the class all of the amazing learning opportunities they'll be experiencing next year.

All our teachers are excited about meeting their new class!

We are really looking forward to welcoming back Miss Browne and Miss Cotton over the next couple of weeks. Both teachers have been on maternity leave this year and we can't wait to work with them again!

At the end of this school year, we will  be saying goodbye to Mrs Palethorpe, Mrs Butler-Mallendar, Mrs Ferguson, Mr Brearly-Ince and Miss Willson.  We have been so lucky to have them - they've thrown themselves into every aspect of school life throughout the time they've been with us, and are highly valued members of the team. Unfortunately they will be leaving Forest Town at the end of this academic year, however we wish them every success and hope our paths cross again in the future.

Over the last few weeks Mrs Craggs has been attending ELSA training, this has now come to and end.  Congratulations to Mrs Craggs who is now ELSA qualified.

ELSAs are specialists with a wealth of experience of working with children and young people. ELSAs are trained and regularly supervised by Educational Psychologists.

ELSAs are warm, kind and caring people who want to make children and young people feel happy in school and to reach their potential socially, emotionally and academically. They understand the barriers to learning that some children and young people might have and can help them with this.

They can support the children and young person’s emotional development and help them cope with life’s challenges. ELSAs will also help children and young people to find solutions to problems they might have.

An ELSA is not there to fix problems but to help them find their own solutions and offer that important support to a child or young person.

Relationships are key in helping children and young people to feel safe and nurtured. ELSA is about creating a reflective space for the child or young person.

Last week all children and staff enjoyed our 'Modern Foreign Language Celebration Days'.

This involved learning about France including French landmarks, food and famous people as well as a very active French dance and live music workshop; the children were fascinated to see the accordion play some French music and see how it worked.

The workshop providers were very complimentary about the behaviour, enthusiasm and engagement of everyone who took part.  We have also enjoyed having the chance to celebrate other languages that are spoken in school.

We always welcome feedback and want to continue to work closely with you to ensure your children are thriving at school. Please do continue to contact your class teacher if you do have any questions, however if ever you needed to speak to another adult, the following members of staff are available as Phase Leaders.
